Great automotive design is a game of tension—between power and elegance, aggression and restraint, history and progress. Bugatti has always thrived in that space, creating cars that balance brutal performance with a sculptural presence that feels almost timeless. But as hypercars push further into the realms of advanced aerodynamics and extreme engineering, that balance becomes harder to maintain. The Avallon concept tackles that challenge head-on, rethinking how form and function coexist while staying unmistakably Bugatti.

Instead of chasing radical reinvention, the Avallon refines the elements that have always defined the marque. It embraces the brand’s signature split-body aesthetic, exposes its mechanical heart like a piece of kinetic art, and integrates aerodynamics so seamlessly that they feel like natural extensions of the design rather than add-ons. Every vent, crease, and intake plays a role, not just in shaping airflow but in creating a visual language that speaks to both tradition and the future. It’s a study in how far a brand can evolve while keeping its soul intact.

Designer: Frédéric LE SCIELLOUR

At the front, the Avallon reinterprets Bugatti’s iconic horseshoe grille with a sharper, more contemporary execution. It’s slightly recessed, flanked by large, angular air intakes that channel airflow around the nose for improved aerodynamics. The headlights feature a distinctive quadruple-LED cluster on each side, emphasizing the brand’s dedication to precision engineering and modern lighting design. This arrangement creates a striking horizontal emphasis that contrasts with the verticality of the central grille, giving the front an aggressive yet refined stance.

Move your eye to the rear, however, and a striking central spine runs down the deck, dividing the upper body into two subtly distinct planes. This signature split recalls Bugatti’s heritage, from classic models to the modern Chiron, while also serving an aerodynamic function by directing airflow toward the engine bay. The engine itself is a spectacle, sitting beneath two pronounced air intake housings capped with grille-like covers. These aren’t just mechanical necessities; they’re sculpted into the rear clamshell as design statements, accentuated by a thin LED strip that runs between them. The result is a futuristic, motorsport-inspired aesthetic that highlights both form and function.

Along the sides, the design plays with concave and convex surfaces, giving the car a sense of motion even when it’s parked. The body tapers inward at the waistline, making room for deep, sculpted side intakes that feed air into the powerhouse behind the driver. Carbon-fiber elements trace the lower edges of the car, blending aerodynamics with aesthetics. The side mirrors, perched on razor-thin arms, almost look like they’re floating—clearly designed with both form and function in mind. And then there are the wheels: a multi-spoke design with green brake calipers peeking through, adding a bold splash of color against the otherwise sleek and serious bodywork.

At the back, a slim LED strip stretches across the entire width of the car, with an illuminated “Bugatti” badge sitting front and center. Below it, a gloss-black panel holds the Avallon badging, while carbon-fiber mesh vents suggest serious heat management for the engine. The diffuser is seamlessly integrated into the lower section, with rectangular exhaust outlets that echo the vent shapes seen up top. The broad-shouldered stance and tapering tail keep the car unmistakably Bugatti, while the sharper details signal an evolution in design.

What makes the Avallon concept so captivating is its ability to blend functionality with artistry. Every curve and crease serves a purpose, from optimizing airflow to highlighting the engineering marvel that is the engine. The interplay of exposed carbon fiber and polished silver panels creates a dynamic sense of depth and layering, as if the car were assembled with the precision of a master jeweler. Yet, for all its modern touches, the Avallon remains unmistakably Bugatti: sophisticated, muscular, and dripping with heritage.

If this is a glimpse at what’s next for Bugatti, it’s an exciting one. The Avallon stays true to the brand’s DNA—elegant, powerful, and obsessively detailed—while injecting fresh ideas that could define the next generation of hypercars. It’s a reminder that when Bugatti dreams up a concept, it’s not just about speed or luxury; it’s about making something that feels truly special.

With the Lunar New Year this week, it’s not surprising to see quite a number of products trying to capitalize on the celebration. Snake-themed designs have been quite trendy the past few days, though some come in forms you least expected. Who would have thought that the reptile would slither on our wrists in ways that are both luxurious and nostalgic?

There is, for example, this rather elaborate luxury watch that has a golden snake wrapping around the tourbillon. Although just as premium and stylish, this limited edition watch, designed just for the Year of the Snake, puts a different twist on that theme. Rather than some generic snake, The Twelve Snake reminds us of one of the most addictive mobile games that ever landed on phones, though thankfully not in a form that could have you lose time instead of tracking it.

Designers: x Romaric (seconde/seconde/)

Even in the 90s, mobile phones were already becoming more than just communication devices. That’s because even in the 90s, people would often find themselves with long pockets of idle time, whether waiting in line or stuck in traffic. Despite the simplicity of the graphics and controls, the Snake game on Nokia phones brought countless hours of mindless fun, mashing those two or four keys to make sure that your ever-growing snake doesn’t go hungry and eat itself.

This attention-grabbing 40mm watch brings back memories of those days by imprinting that pixelated snake on your wrist. The bright “Venom Green” dial and its woven pattern mimic the low-res screens of the old Nokia phones on which the game found its notoriety. The black snake slithers around the clock like the 90s, trying to take a bit out of the Christopher Ward twin-flags logo. Thankfully, this isn’t some smartwatch that will let you play the game at the expense of your productivity and eyesight.

There are other literally small details that add even more elements of fun to the watch. A false date window at the 7:30 position cycles through six different treats at random times throughout the month. Although definitely Swiss-made, the watch’s text says “HISS MADE” instead, along with two red bite marks at 6 o’clock to prove it. Flipping the watch over reveals a green sovereign with the words “CHEERS TO THE SNAKE YEAR(S)” printed on it. There you will also find yet another snake circling its way around the perimeter.

The Twelve Snake isn’t just all looks, of course, with a Sellita SW200-1 Automatic movement powering its intricate mechanism. The 26-jewel movement boasts a 38-hour power reserve, longer than the life of an old-school Nokia phone. As expected, such a special watch has quite an exquisite price tag attached to it to the tune of $1,225. Unfortunately, the window of opportunity to grab this nostalgia trip is closing fast, As the pre-order ends on February 12th.

Called the Desert Rock, this luxurious getaway has been carved into the Hejaz Mountains in Saudi Arabia. It is a part of the country’s majestic Red Sea giga-project. It is designed to be a sophisticated holiday destination for affluent tourists. It is packed with cliff-hanging villas and private retreats, offering lush luxury. The Desert Rock is designed by Oppenheim Architecture, and it is closely located at the new airport by Foster + Partners.

The project draws inspiration from the ancient Nabataean civilization, which is acclaimed for its rock-carved architecture in the Arabian Peninsula. The project is developed to attract more tourism to the country, although it does seem targeted towards the wealthier population. The luxurious retreat provides splendid views of the surrounding landscape while being safely tucked away into the mountains of Saudi Arabia.

Designer: Oppenheim Architecture

The unique development spans over 7 acres and is a stunning architectural marvel nestled within a dramatic mountain landscape. It is equipped with a diverse range of accommodations which have been designed in harmony with the natural surroundings. The development includes marvelous Cliff Hanging Villas and Mountain Crevice Villas. These villas have been perched on the edge of the mountainside, while the Mountain Cave Suites have been constructed into the rock, offering a unique and unparalleled exposure and connection with nature.

You also have the option of the Royal Villa which offers maximum exclusivity, privacy, and luxury. This villa is strategically situated to offer seclusion, providing a serene escape from the outside world. The process began with the excavation of a massive tunnel into the mountain, which required meticulous planning and engineering expertise. The accommodations were carved out of the mountain over seven years, which is quite a feat.

“We are ready to welcome guests to Desert Rock, our third self-operated hotel in the Red Sea Global hospitality portfolio,” said John Pagano, Group CEO of Red Sea Global. “This is more than just a hotel – it is a unique property, crafted into the rock face, offering a truly immersive experience where luxury and nature come together to create a truly unforgettable escape.”

The Desert Rock is a significant part of the impressive Red Sea giga-project. It is at the forefront of the nation’s strategy alongside projects like Neom and Qiddiya to convert it from an oil-based economy to a tourism-centric one. The completion of Desert Rock coincides with the launch of Sindalah, the first project within the Neom development. If you’re interested in visiting this stunning property, then the reservations are now open. However, this place is far from budget-friendly, and the price will depend on the choice of villa and duration of stay. Approximate costs were around US$2,200 for a night.

Nike 24.7 Marks the Biggest Shift in the Brand’s Performance Wear Yet

]]>

Nike is introducing the 24.7 collection as a defining moment in its approach to athleisure, positioning it as a step forward in the evolution of performance-driven lifestyle wear that merges comfort, versatility, and contemporary fashion. The sportswear giant is shifting gears, moving beyond performance-driven apparel and moving into a more refined approach to athleisure. With consumers demanding more from their wardrobes, Nike’s answer is a lineup that blends technical innovation with everyday style.

Designer: Nike

Nike

Unlike past releases that leaned into high-energy branding and performance-driven marketing, 24.7 adopts a more sophisticated direction, focusing on subtlety and versatility in its design language. The pieces are made to be worn beyond the gym, on the move, at work, or even while winding down. It is a calculated shift, signaling that Nike sees the future of sportswear as something that seamlessly integrates into daily life. And if I am being honest, I do not understand why it took Nike so long to recognize this shift. Athleisure has been evolving for years, with brands refining the intersection of sport and lifestyle, yet Nike—arguably the most influential force in the industry—has only now begun fully embracing this transition.

The Design Philosophy Behind 24.7

At first glance, the 24.7 collection doesn’t immediately resemble what many have come to expect from Nike. The oversized swooshes, aggressive graphics, and high-contrast designs that have defined many of the brand’s past collections are noticeably absent, signaling a shift in aesthetic direction. Instead, the collection embraces minimalism, tonal branding, and subtle details that feel more at home in a high-end boutique than a sports store.

This departure from traditional Nike aesthetics is not incidental but a deliberate choice to align with a more polished and adaptable approach to performance-driven fashion. The locker-loop details, internal heat-pressed tags featuring Nike’s Total Orange stripe, and muted color palette reference the brand’s deep-rooted history in sportswear while signaling a refined aesthetic.

Nike

From my perspective, this shift is a long-overdue evolution in Nike’s approach to sportswear. The emphasis on structured silhouettes, refined materials, and tonal branding marks a significant departure from the brand’s past reliance on bold graphics and oversized logos. This shift highlights the versatility Nike is pushing with 24.7, proving that performance apparel can be understated yet impactful.

These pieces aren’t confined to performance wear, nor are they purely casual. They are designed to exist in a space where movement and sophistication come together effortlessly, allowing wearers to transition through different parts of their day without compromise. The adaptability of these garments is what sets them apart, ensuring that they feel just as natural in an active setting as they do in a social or professional environment.

Nike

Nike has taken a distinct step away from its historically bold branding, opting instead for subtle imprints like the tonal Nike 24.7 logo discreetly placed on garments such as chinos. This minimalist approach speaks to the collection’s refined direction, proving that performance apparel does not need to rely on loud graphics or oversized logos to make an impact. The confidence of the design lies in its restraint.

Versatility is the priority, with structured silhouettes that emphasize precision in tailoring rather than attention-grabbing branding. This shift mirrors the rise of “quiet luxury” in fashion, where understated design and premium materials work together to create apparel meant to be worn throughout the entire day without feeling out of place in any scenario.

Fabric Innovation and Market Positioning

Nike isn’t solely relying on design to distinguish this collection, as fabric innovation plays an equally significant role in defining the overall experience of wearing these garments. The introduction of ImpossiblySoft and PerfectStretch materials marks a leap into premium technical wear.

Nike

 • ImpossiblySoft: A Spacer-knit fabric with four-way stretch designed to feel effortless on the skin while maintaining structure. Found in the collection’s crewnecks, joggers, and half-zips, it creates a balance between softness and function.
 • PerfectStretch: A tailored fabric engineered for movement. Used in pleated skirts, wide-leg pants, and woven shirts, it brings a refined look to traditionally sporty pieces.

Both materials use Nike’s signature Dri-FIT technology, which helps regulate moisture and temperature, ensuring that comfort and performance go hand in hand. This pairing allows the garments to maintain breathability and sweat-wicking properties while ensuring an elevated look that doesn’t compromise on mobility. Sweat-wicking, breathable, and adaptive—these fabrics allow 24.7 to blur the line between performance gear and premium leisurewear.

Nike

Nike’s messaging surrounding the 24.7 collection is carefully crafted to reflect a broader lifestyle shift. The phrase ‘From sport to life, from mindset to movement’ encapsulates the idea that athletic wear is no longer just about training or competing but is instead becoming an integral part of daily wardrobes for individuals who prioritize both performance and personal style.

Nike

The decision to feature British sprinter Dina Asher-Smith in the campaign reinforces the collection’s emphasis on adaptability. She describes the fabrics as soft and luxurious, praising the tonal branding for its refined aesthetic. For her, the pieces in this collection stand out because they seamlessly blend performance and style in a way that feels natural and effortless. Whether she’s training, traveling, or making public appearances, she needs apparel that adapts. That’s the exact ethos Nike is building into 24.7.

Nike isn’t the first brand to embrace the concept of elevated athleisure, as the market has already been shaped by key players who have blurred the line between functional sportswear and high-end fashion. Brands like Lululemon have long merged performance and luxury, while Represent has pushed technical apparel into the premium space. Even luxury fashion houses have started experimenting with sport-inspired silhouettes.

Nike

What sets Nike apart is its deep-rooted performance credibility. While other brands focus on aesthetics first, Nike builds from function. 24.7 is a response to shifting consumer expectations—clothes need to perform, but they also need to look good outside of the gym.

What This Means for Nike’s Future

Nike’s introduction of the 24.7 collection signals a long-term commitment to reshaping its approach to lifestyle and performance apparel. It hints at a broader evolution in the brand’s approach to apparel. If this collection gains traction, we could see Nike doubling down on technical lifestyle wear and expanding its Sportswear line with even more refined offerings.

Nike

That raises a few questions. Will Nike lean further into high-end athleisure? Could we see collaborations that push this aesthetic even further? More importantly, will consumers embrace this understated approach, or will they still gravitate towards Nike’s more traditional bold branding?

One thing is clear: 24.7 marks a new direction for Nike. Whether it’s a turning point or just a strategic play remains to be seen, but the brand is making it clear—performance and style no longer exist in separate lanes.

Even if I was filthy rich, I probably would not buy as many designer bags as expected from people on my supposed social status. That’s because I find most of the designs too boring, staid, and sometimes not even that functional. I don’t want to use a bag just because of the name attached to it but would rather use something that can either be really functional or the design is something eye-catching. This new bag from Bao Bao Issey Miyake though is making me think twice about designer bags (although I still can’t afford it in this lifetime anyway).

Designer: Bao Bao Issey Miyake

For their Spring/Summer 2025 collection, Bao Bao Issey Miyake has come up with a design that pays tribute to the world of Japanese and western comics. Manga is a unisex tote bag that pays tribute to the famous Japanese comics as well as the Western version that is inspired by that tradition as well. The graphical tote bag plays around with the shapes that we find in comics and graphic novels. Most of the design uses different combinations of 90-degree and 45-degree lines of the isosceles right triangle.

While the front part of the bag plays around with shapes and colors, the back is just plain. This means you can use either side depending on your mood on that day. If you’re feeling creative and playful, then put the printed one in front. But if you’re feeling more formal, the plain side will be the main character. The Manga has two versions: a monotone color one that is more reminiscent of the traditional Japanese manga, and a multicolor version that is inspired by Western comics.

Each bag has a different background pattern and color palette so you can choose which one matches your personality. The short video they made to show off the bag uses some sound effects that manga readers may find familiar, particularly “DON”. The animation for the tote bags lets you imagine manga characters and animals playing around in your bag. I will still not be able to afford this but in case you’re someone who can buy one, the bag will be available starting February 1 at stores and their online stores.

The Timex Giorgio Galli S2Ti is a watch that challenges expectations and redefines what Timex can deliver. Priced at $1,950, it positions itself as a bold entry into the luxury watch segment, signaling a departure from the brand’s reputation for affordability. This watch stands out for its premium materials, precise craftsmanship, and the bold vision that shaped its design. Designed by Giorgio Galli, Timex’s global creative director, the S2Ti represents the brand’s evolution and its willingness to explore uncharted territory.

Designer: Giorgio Galli

This watch builds on the foundation of the original S1 model, incorporating enhanced features that elevate it within the luxury timepiece market. As a result, the S2Ti is a refined expression of craftsmanship, advancing what Timex has traditionally offered. With its distinct materials and limited production, it offers something rare in the Timex catalog.

Design and Aesthetics

The fully monochrome titanium finish, combined with a sleek and polished case profile, gives the watch a refined and contemporary feel. The polished bezel provides a subtle contrast against the brushed titanium case, adding depth and sophistication. This watch doesn’t rely on ornate details to make an impression. Instead, it leans on proportion and material choices to exude quiet luxury.

Timex: Giorgio Galli S2Ti

The integration of the bracelet into the case maintains the flow of the design, ensuring that every component feels intentional. Giorgio Galli’s design philosophy is evident in how the watch balances simplicity with complexity. The soft curves of the case transition seamlessly into the bracelet, reinforcing the sense of cohesion. With restrained branding, the focus remains entirely on the craftsmanship, allowing light and shadow to define the watch’s silhouette rather than excessive detailing.

Case Construction and Materials

The Giorgio Galli S2Ti redefines sophistication, seamlessly blending contemporary design with exceptional durability. It’s crafted with a light and compact 38mm titanium case reinforced by a forged carbon fiber mid-case, ensuring both strength and an ultra-lightweight feel. The case finish features a combination of brushed and polished surfaces, creating a striking visual contrast that adds depth to its overall design.

Timex: Giorgio Galli S2Ti

Titanium’s natural hypoallergenic properties make it an excellent choice for long-term wear, while its resistance to corrosion ensures longevity. The curved lugs help maintain a comfortable fit, preventing any bulkiness on the wrist. The beveled edges catch the light, adding an extra level of dimensionality to the case. There’s an interplay between polished and matte textures that enhances the visual experience, ensuring the watch remains engaging despite its understated nature.

Anti-Reflective Sapphire Glass Crystal

A beautifully domed, anti-reflective sapphire crystal spans edge-to-edge, elegantly enveloping the bezel while leaving only the lugs exposed. Unlike conventional flat sapphire glass, this crystal subtly curves over the dial, creating a seamless transition between the case and the display. This curvature enhances the watch’s aesthetics and reduces glare, improving visibility in different lighting conditions.

The S2Ti’s edge-to-edge construction gives it a distinctive look, allowing the dial to appear as though it is floating within the case. This effect is accentuated by the lack of an external bezel, ensuring an uninterrupted visual flow from case to dial. The sapphire crystal’s anti-reflective coating minimizes unwanted reflections, making it easier to read the time from various angles without distortion.

This level of detail in crystal design is often reserved for watches at a significantly higher price point. The execution here showcases Timex’s dedication to blending premium materials with thoughtful engineering, ensuring that the S2Ti remains both functional and visually striking.

Dial and Hands

The clean and modern dial is finished in titanium satin, elevated with an impeccably polished silver-tone handset and an applied stainless-steel ring hour track that’s simply notched to mark the hours. Without unnecessary ornamentation, the applied indices and elongated hands stand out. The muted grey tone of the titanium dial creates a seamless look, harmonizing with the case and bracelet.

Timex: Giorgio Galli S2Ti

A small but significant detail is the interplay between brushed and polished surfaces on the hands, which subtly enhances contrast under different lighting conditions. Despite its understated design, legibility remains excellent, thanks to the well-proportioned hands and markers. The dial’s simplicity is what makes it striking—it doesn’t need embellishments to make a strong impression.

Titanium Bracelet with I-Size

Made entirely from solid titanium, the bracelet is designed for durability and everyday comfort. It features the innovative I-Size system, an advanced resizing mechanism that allows tool-free adjustment. This system is concealed inside each removable link, ensuring a seamless look while offering quick customization. To remove a link, users simply pull the hollowed-out outer link in the direction of the arrow and turn it, making it possible to adjust the bracelet in under a minute without special tools.

Timex: Giorgio Galli S2Ti

The bracelet is secured with a custom-designed deployment clasp and is also made of titanium, enhancing both durability and comfort. Unlike other watches that use titanium purely for aesthetic appeal, the S2Ti integrates it as a structural element that reinforces the overall build quality. The bracelet’s sleek, minimalistic design maintains a refined look while enhancing practicality, making it a standout feature that sets this watch apart from others in its category.

Swiss-Made Automatic Movement

At the core of the Timex Giorgio Galli S2Ti is the Sellita SW200-1, a Swiss-made automatic movement known for its accuracy and reliability. This 26-jewel caliber operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz), delivering a smooth and consistent sweep of the second hand. The movement features a bi-directional winding rotor for efficient power generation, ensuring consistent energy delivery.

Timex: Giorgio Galli S2Ti

With a power reserve of up to 41 hours, the watch continues running even when left unworn for nearly two days. The hacking seconds function allows precise time-setting, while the hand-winding capability provides an additional way to keep the watch powered. A robust anti-shock system, using either Novodiac or Incabloc technology, adds durability, protecting the movement from impacts. The Nivaflex mainspring contributes to stable power delivery, maintaining performance over time.

Timex: Giorgio Galli S2Ti

Timex highlights this movement through a titanium case back with a flat sapphire glass exhibition window, allowing a clear view of its intricate mechanics and personalized black IP rotor. The case back is secured with six screws, reinforcing the S2Ti’s premium construction. This movement represents a blend of Swiss watchmaking tradition and modern engineering, ensuring the S2Ti meets the expectations of mechanical watch enthusiasts.

Premium Features and Exclusivity

The S2Ti is designed for everyday wear while maintaining a refined, luxurious presence. The scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, enhanced with an anti-reflective coating, ensures clarity and protection against daily use. With a water resistance rating of 50 meters, it can withstand light water exposure without compromising its elegance.

Limited to just 500 pieces, the S2Ti stands out as a rare and exclusive addition to the Timex lineup. Typically, this level of exclusivity is associated with brands in a different price bracket. Collectors and enthusiasts seeking something unique will appreciate the opportunity to own a watch that isn’t widely available. Beyond its rarity, the S2Ti represents a strategic shift for Timex, demonstrating its ability to create high-end timepieces that rival established luxury brands.

“A celebration of timeless design and craftsmanship. It represents the pinnacle of the S series and a bridge to the next chapter, where my passion for watchmaking will inspire new possibilities.”

The Timex Giorgio Galli S2Ti defines a new space for Timex in the luxury market. By combining innovative materials, Swiss precision, and an elegant yet modern design, it challenges preconceptions of what the brand can achieve. It is a watch that embodies a new standard for the company.

Richard Mille is generally known for fascinating timepieces that are apparently robust and intriguingly complex. This time, to kickstart the new year, the brand has launched a brutalist architecture-inspired RM 16-02 Automatic Extraflat, which is a modern take on the RM 016, Richard Mille’s first rectangular automatic watch, an embodiment of ergonomic perfection and minimalist aesthetics.

If there is one architectural style that has influenced watchmaking more than others, it has to be Brutalism. Since its buildup in the 1950s, the brutalist style – characterized by blocky forms and geometric shapes – has found its way into the best of watches including a Patek Philippe, a Vacheron Constantin, and even a Richard Mille. The RM 16-02 Automatic Extraflat reflects on the architectural style, while staying aesthetically within the RM’s signature style: so apparently what we get is a rectangular-shaped, skeletonized watch that resembles Ariadne’s thread, by an intricate maze on the dial.

Designer: Richard Mille

Even though the fit and ideology of the original RM 16-02 are upheld, the new iteration of the watch excels in its interpretation of the rectangular shape and the complex, skeletonized dial that screams with brutalist boldness. Richard Mille has made the new RM 16-02 Automatic Extraflat available in two vibrant colorways: Terracotta Quartz TPT and Titanium Creamy White Quartz TPT.

Made in about 10 percent smaller size than the original RM016, the new RM 16-02 measures 36mm in width, 45.64mm in length, and 9.5mm thick. Retaining its curvature reminiscent of Richard Mille watches, it comprises a full-grade 5 titanium case in the first model, while it’s the interesting new Terracotta Quartz TPT model that catches the eye, not only because it’s a first for RM but also for its process of achieving the color. The unique color is achieved by infusing 45 microns of thin silica threads in a colored matrix and then subjecting them to high temperature and pressure.

Of course, both the color variants of the 2025 RM 16-02 Automatic Extraflat captivate with their aesthetics and rectangular cases, their story is not limited to appearance. The watches are powered by a new in-house CRMA9 calibre skeletonized automatic movement with hours and minute hands on the dial. The movement measuring 26mm wide, 31.25mm long, and 4.12mm thick – specially made for the watch – helps maintain the RM 16-02’s slim profile and provides it with up to 50 hours of power reserve. Richard Mille watches, we have come to understand, don’t sell for affordable rates. Somehow the company has tried to keep the RM 16-02 watches within the range of affordability for most collectors. To ensure that, RM 16-02 Automatic Extraflat Terracotta Quartz TPT is priced at $156,000 and Titanium White Quartz TPT is retailing for $134,000.

The Rolex Oyster Perpetual “Celebration Dial” is a watch that defies expectations, delivering a burst of color and whimsy that feels almost rebellious within Rolex’s typically reserved design language. Introduced during Watches & Wonders Geneva in 2023, this limited-run piece caught the attention of collectors and casual enthusiasts alike, myself included. It’s a design that drew me in for its sheer audacity—a Rolex that isn’t afraid to be playful while staying true to the brand’s hallmark craftsmanship.

Designer: Rolex

A Dial That Redefines Fun in Watchmaking

The dial is where the magic happens. Against a light turquoise background, a medley of colorful circular motifs scatters across the surface like confetti at a celebration. The palette of pink, blue, yellow, red, and green feels joyous, a stark contrast to the monochromatic or subdued tones Rolex is better known for. Each shape appears almost suspended, creating a dynamic visual effect that feels alive. This dial breaks free from the traditional confines of luxury watch design with its creative and vibrant elements.

What’s remarkable is how the design manages to balance fun with sophistication. While the colors and shapes seem random at first glance, there’s an undeniable sense of order and precision to the arrangement. It’s as if every bubble was meticulously placed to ensure harmony, reflecting Rolex’s careful craftsmanship. Even the traditional hour markers and hands, with their polished steel finish, feel at home here, grounding the whimsical design in functionality.

For me, the Celebration Dial represents a moment of unrestrained creativity in an industry often obsessed with tradition. It’s a watch that doesn’t take itself too seriously yet never compromises on quality. It’s this duality that makes it so irresistible.

The Oyster Perpetual Line: A Legacy of Simplicity and Innovation

The Celebration Dial is part of the Rolex Oyster Perpetual collection, a cornerstone of the brand’s lineup. Introduced in 1931, the Oyster Perpetual line has long been a symbol of Rolex’s commitment to innovation and simplicity. As the first waterproof wristwatch equipped with a self-winding mechanism, it set the standard for durability and reliability.

Over the decades, the Oyster Perpetual has remained a favorite for its timeless design and versatility. Whether worn in a boardroom or on a beach, it’s a watch that adapts seamlessly to any setting. The line has always leaned towards understated elegance, which is why the introduction of the Celebration Dial feels so groundbreaking. It’s a reminder that even a brand as storied as Rolex isn’t afraid to take risks.

Available in three sizes—31mm, 36mm, and 41mm—the Celebration Dial caters to a wide audience. Each size offers the same vibrant design, ensuring that the watch’s charm isn’t lost regardless of wrist size. Powered by Rolex’s Caliber 3230 and 2232 movements, these watches boast impressive power reserves of 70 and 55 hours, respectively. The technical specs are as solid as you’d expect from Rolex, but here they serve as a backdrop to the real star: that unforgettable dial.

The Celebration Dial: A Personal Connection

When I first saw the Celebration Dial, I was struck by how un-Rolex it felt, and yet, how perfectly it fit within the brand’s ethos. This is a watch that challenges the idea of what a Rolex should be, and in doing so, it opens the door to a new kind of collector—someone who values individuality as much as heritage.

Sadly, the Celebration Dial is now discontinued, a fact that stings every time I think about it. I truly wanted one for my collection, not just for its design but for what it represents. Acquiring one now means venturing into the gray market, where prices have tripled. I had the chance to try this watch when I stumbled upon one at a Rolex boutique in a European airport, but it was only for demonstration and not for sale. The price at the time would have come to the amount of $5,863 tax-free, adding another layer of frustration to its unattainability. It’s a sobering reminder of how fleeting such moments of creativity can be in the world of luxury watches.

The Broader Appeal of the Oyster Perpetual

The Celebration Dial is just one chapter in the Oyster Perpetual’s long and storied history. For many, the Oyster Perpetual represents the entry point into the world of Rolex. It’s a model that embodies the brand’s core values without the added complexities of complications like a date function or chronograph. In this simplicity lies its charm.

But simplicity doesn’t mean boring. Over the years, Rolex has introduced subtle updates to the Oyster Perpetual, from the bright lacquered dials of 2020 to the vibrant Celebration Dial of 2023. These moments of experimentation breathe new life into the collection, proving that even the most established designs can evolve.

The Oystersteel case, known for its durability and resistance to corrosion, ensures that these watches are as practical as they are beautiful. Combined with a water resistance of 100 meters and a robust Oyster bracelet, the Oyster Perpetual is built to withstand the rigors of daily wear. It’s this combination of form and function that has cemented its status as a modern classic.

A Reflection on Design and Craftsmanship

What makes the Celebration Dial so compelling is how it bridges the gap between art and engineering. On one hand, it’s a playful, almost childlike design that brings joy to anyone who sees it. On the other hand, it’s a precision instrument crafted to the exact standards for which Rolex is known.

This duality is what sets Rolex apart. Few brands can balance innovation and tradition with such finesse. The Celebration Dial is a bold departure, but it’s also a natural evolution for a brand that has never been afraid to push boundaries. Whether it’s the introduction of the first waterproof case in 1926 or the colorful dials of the modern era, Rolex has always understood the importance of staying relevant without losing sight of its roots.

For me, the Celebration Dial is more than a watch; it’s a reminder of why I fell in love with watches in the first place. It’s about more than timekeeping or status; it’s about design, creativity, and the stories we tell through the objects we choose to wear. This is a watch that makes you smile every time you look at it, and in a world that often feels too serious, that’s no small feat.

The Future of Playful Watch Design

The Celebration Dial may be gone, but its impact will linger. It’s a watch that dared to be different, and in doing so, it captured the imagination of collectors around the world. I can’t help but wonder what’s next for Rolex and whether we’ll see more designs that embrace this sense of fun and energy.

In many ways, the Celebration Dial feels like a turning point. It’s proof that even the most traditional brands can evolve, and it’s a reminder that luxury doesn’t have to mean serious. Sometimes, it can be as simple as a burst of color on a dial. And while I may never own one, I’ll always admire what this watch represents: a celebration of creativity, craftsmanship, and the joy of watchmaking.

Wireless charging didn’t just free us from the tyranny of tangles, it also opened the doors to creative charger designs. Especially with the addition of magnetic force, chargers no longer needed to be stuck to walls or power outlets or even lie flat on charging beds. Of course, these still required the presence of often very conspicuous chargers that may look out of place in some situations, no matter how aesthetic they might be.

Some furniture makers have started integrating wireless charging into their designs but often end up making the areas too obvious, clashing with the otherwise minimalist and luxurious design of the product. This wireless charging innovation, in contrast, is almost completely invisible, save for a very subtle and elegant halo of light enclosing the charging area. In fact, this technology can be integrated into an equally innovative and sustainable stone-like material that transforms kitchen countertops and luxurious tables into futuristic charging spaces for phones.

Designer: Cosentino x FreePower

Imagine going to a bar and never having to worry about your phone dying. Simply put your mobile device down in front of you and have it charge while you sip your martini and make connections with the people around you. Or how about placing your phone on the kitchen table while you prepare dinner and listen to your favorite podcast, confident that your phone’s battery will be full by the time you’re done? All of this without a single wireless charger that stands out like a sore thumb.

FreePower’s technology was already making these James Bond-like scenarios a reality by integrating the wireless charging components in places you’d least expect them, specifically materials like marble and stone that you’d hardly expect to have embedded chargers. Its partnership with Cosentino, however, adds another twist to that dreamy technology, making it available on materials that are both luxurious and sustainable.

Cosentino’s Silestone, for example, is a low-silica mineral surface that uses recycled materials to reduce the amount of crystallized silica used. Dekton, on the other hand, mimics the appearance and texture of porcelain while using carbon-neutral materials that also help improve its durability and scratch resistance. Both materials are also produced using sustainable processes that don’t sacrifice the planet’s health in the name of luxury.

The collaboration between FreePower and Cosentino opens a new avenue for integrating convenient wireless charging spaces into luxurious but sustainable surfaces that can be used in kitchens, bathrooms, bars, conference tables, and even desks. The only drawback to this ideal situation is that these pieces of furniture have to be custom made, as retrofitting existing counters and tabletops is not yet possible at this time.

Hisense is pushing big-screen boundaries again at CES 2025, building on the momentum from its impressive showings in prior years. In 2024, the manufacturer highlighted its NBA Championship Edition TV with groundbreaking brightness and numerous dimming zones, setting a high bar for this year’s lineup. That much is clear from its focus on Mini LED, Micro LED, AI-driven advancements, and updated audio systems. The brand has poured years into expanding its presence in the ultra-large screen category, and it’s moving forward with a level of determination that continues to intensify its position among the top premium TV makers. The new series spans from an RGB Local Dimming behemoth measuring 116 inches—known officially as the 116UX—to a massive Micro LED at 136 inches called the 136MX to an upgraded ultra-short-throw laser projector that can stretch from 100 inches up to 150 inches. Alongside these, Hisense is rolling out a new wireless home theater system designed to match bright visuals and bold contrast with equally immersive audio. Each device is built on deeper chipset integration and AI-driven enhancements, a stance that places the brand in a prime spot to challenge well-established rivals.

Designer: Hisense

Hisense’s 2024 growth numbers underscore why it steps into 2025 with such confidence. People inside the organization point to expanded color accuracy and AI upscaling as core factors in its recent jump to the number two global share position for premium TV. That progression came after surpassing brands like Samsung and LG; its presence in the US market for screens 87 inches and larger soared as well. That focus on big sizes has been a constant for Hisense, with a 150% year-over-year increase in unit share for 75-inch sets. While countless companies stick with the typical 55- or 65-inch range, Hisense has made an aggressive leap toward screens that let a home theater dominate the entire room. Its argument is that it can offer more accessible routes to advanced display technologies, unlike competitors that reserve such innovations for their most exclusive products.

Beyond pushing size boundaries, Hisense is heightening brightness across its new displays. With a peak luminance of 10,000 nits, the flagship models show the brand’s commitment to HDR performance. Reaching those brightness levels, even if briefly for highlights, requires advanced backlighting. That’s where the company insists it’s differentiating itself. In 2024, Hisense released a 110-inch “NBA Championship Edition” that achieved 10,000 nits and 40,000 dimming zones. Now, in 2025, the brand is taking Mini LED another step forward with an RGB backlight containing tens of thousands of miniaturized LEDs. Rather than stick with the usual white or blue LED approach, each module packs red, green, and blue chips inside an optical lens. Hisense says this approach increases color control and reduces harmful blue light output.

The 116-inch ULED with TriChroma LED Technology

The 116UX, which is the manufacturer’s official name for its 116-inch TriChroma LED TV, stands as a bold achievement in RGB Local Dimming Technology. It’s the only consumer TV on the market with this approach, and Hisense claims it covers about 97% of the BT.2020 color space. Unlike traditional Mini LED systems that rely on filtered white or blue backlights, RGB Local Dimming units use separate red, green, and blue diodes to generate color directly. This results in richer reds, deeper greens, and vibrant blues without the brightness loss that conventional filters can introduce.

Tens of thousands of these RGB optical lenses operate as independently controlled clusters, handling multi-level dimming at both the LED and cluster levels. This design supports brightness accuracy and color reproduction while reducing blooming. By generating color directly, the television avoids the efficiency issues often tied to filtered systems, delivering a peak brightness of up to 10,000 nits. It also reduces harmful blue light by nearly 40%, making longer viewing sessions more comfortable.

Driving these feats is the Hi-View AI Engine X, which analyzes each frame through AI-driven features like AI Peak Brightness, AI RGB Local Dimming, and AI Banding Smoother. This platform makes real-time adjustments to contrast, brightness, and color, bringing lifelike depth to every scene. Audio gets a boost from a 6.2.2 channel surround system that includes Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual X. AI Sound Optimization tailors the audio on the fly, so dialogue stands out and effects fill the room.

The 116UX also includes an ultra-low glare panel and low-reflection engineering, giving a sharp image even when ambient light creeps in. The wide viewing angle keeps color and detail consistent from every seat. At under 40 mm thick, it remains relatively sleek despite its huge footprint. This model ships with Google TV, so streaming apps and voice-activated controls are built right in. Owners can use Alexa, Google Assistant, or Apple HomeKit for further smart home integration. The set also supports IMAX Enhanced modes, giving home cinema buffs extra flexibility for specialized content.

A major theme for Hisense is “mini LED excellence.” Over the last year, the brand has rolled out Mini LED across its flagship models and plans to keep expanding. Company figures show that this approach has already helped it grab a huge share of the large-screen market. While many manufacturers treat Mini LED as a pricey add-on, Hisense believes it can push it at broader price levels. The 116UX is a prime example of that direction.

The 136-inch Micro LED

Side by side with the 116UX, Hisense is unveiling a 136MX Micro LED that takes self-emissive technology even bigger. Micro LED’s core idea is that each pixel is made of microscopic red, green, and blue clusters. The 136MX uses over 24.88 million sub-LEDs in total to create 4K resolution with perfect black levels and minimal halo effects. This approach avoids the burn-in risk seen in OLED, and it can reach 10,000 nits, just like top LCD-based HDR sets.

Hisense also specifies that the 136MX achieves a contrast ratio near a million to one, partly due to a special nano-crystal black coating on each panel segment. Reflectivity is much lower than what standard LCD or glass-based displays encounter, so the picture stays clear even in bright conditions. According to the manufacturer, color coverage is around 95% of BT.2020. This set relies on the same Hi-View AI Engine X platform for pixel-level adjustments, analyzing each scene to enhance clarity and color transitions. Because the 136MX is self-emissive and inorganic, the brand sees it as a durable alternative to OLED. While cost has long been an obstacle, Hisense is investing in manufacturing and vertical integration to find ways of narrowing that gap. Unlike the 116UX, the 136-inch model runs on the VIDAA OS platform, which is the company’s in-house interface.

The L9 Cube TriChroma Laser TV

Not everyone wants a 100-plus-inch panel, so Hisense is covering another angle with the L9 Cube TriChroma Laser TV that can go from 100 inches up to 150 inches. This new model adds flexible focus, making it easier to match the displayed size to your space. The brand provides ALR screens at multiple diagonals, giving the owner a range of options. The L9 Cube’s brightness can reach 5,000 lumens, around 33% higher than last year’s version, and contrast is up to about 3,000:1. The triple-laser engine covers 110% of BT 2020, and it uses an automatic alignment process once the screen is mounted, taking much of the hassle out of calibration.

The audio has been upgraded to a 6.2.2 channel system that puts out more than 116 watts, tuned by Harman Kardon for a broader theater-like experience. Because of its ultra-short-throw design, the projector can sit close to the wall, producing a massive image without swallowing your living room. Like many of Hisense’s premium releases, this model comes with Google TV. People who want a projector but don’t want typical clutter or fuss might find it appealing.

The HT Saturn Wireless Home Theater Audio System

If the integrated audio in the L9 Cube or in the giant TVs isn’t enough, Hisense has a new wireless speaker system named HT Saturn. It consists of four speakers and a subwoofer that all connect wirelessly to the TV via a small central hub. Each speaker only needs power, so you don’t need to run wires under carpets or through walls. Once they’re in place, the system emits tones and calibrates for your seating arrangement. Dolby Atmos and DTS-X support places sounds above or behind you, and the brand includes a feature called Hi-Concerto to merge the TV’s built-in drivers with the HT Saturn. This approach can widen the overall soundstage, especially if the television includes additional speakers.

Hisense sees a strong market for an easy-to-set-up, multi-channel audio solution that doesn’t require extensive home installation. The HT Saturn system seems like a logical partner for either the 116UX, 136MX, or even the L9 Cube. It’s a way to move beyond soundbars without resorting to old-school wiring or external receivers.

Vertical Integration and the Hi-View AI Engine

Hisense’s drive toward deeper vertical integration continues in 2025. The company now offers three tiers of its chipset technology—Hi-View AI Engine, Hi-View AI Engine Pro, and Hi-View AI Engine X—and the top-tier version powers its premium sets. This integration fuels faster, more capable processing for local dimming, motion smoothing, upscaling, and AI-driven color enhancements. The brand points out small performance gains of around 1.4% to 2.2% in CPU, GPU, and neural processing this year. Even if that sounds minor, the company says those improvements help with minute on-the-fly adjustments that keep fast-paced scenes looking sharp. AI features under the Hi-View umbrella handle picture, sound, scenario detection, and energy management.

Face recognition algorithms keep skin tones from looking unnatural while banding smoother eliminates streaks in gradients. Noise reduction is handled separately to minimize streaming artifacts while retaining detail. On the audio side, AI Sound lifts voices above the background noise and adjusts EQ for a more balanced output. Game modes reduce latency and tweak brightness or shadow detail to help players spot what’s lurking in dark corners. AI Energy reads ambient lighting and dims the backlight where possible, saving power and easing eye fatigue.

Hisense sees this AI integration as a big step because it simplifies operations. Instead of burying menus, the sets adapt automatically. Another new feature is “Customized Picture Mode,” which shows you a series of images and asks which you prefer. The TV then determines your color and brightness preferences and applies them. Less fussing with manual settings might appeal to mainstream viewers.

Design, Setup, and Audio Ecosystem

Hisense is mindful that a 116-inch or 136-inch display can dominate a space. The 116UX has been slimmed to under 40 mm thick. The Micro LED panels skip extra glass layers, which cuts reflection. The L9 Cube appeals to those who prefer a projector in a low console instead of a massive black rectangle on the wall. Every set includes some version of a built-in streaming platform, but the 116UX and L9 run on Google TV, while the 136MX relies on VIDAA OS. Either way, Netflix, YouTube, and Disney+ come preloaded.

The manufacturer hasn’t forgotten about sound. The big 116-inch TriChroma includes a robust 6.2.2 channel setup, while the L9 Cube’s internal system has expanded power output. The new HT Saturn system goes further for those who want a bigger soundstage without permanent wiring. It wirelessly coordinates four satellites and a sub, then integrates them with the TV. Each speaker is measured with a calibration tone so the system can adjust levels and timing automatically.

A Deeper Look at AI Upgrades

Hisense insists it’s doing more than tossing in marketing buzzwords. AI-based backlight control, local dimming, and color smoothing rely on real-time machine learning, scanning each scene and each cluster of LEDs or pixels. Faces get an extra pass for skin tone accuracy and detail. Color banding in skies or water scenes is smoothed out, and compression artifacts common on streaming platforms are minimized, though not entirely erased. Motion smoothing blends with black frame insertion for those who want an extra-fluid look, and the television can dial that down if you switch to Filmmaker Mode.

The same approach applies to AI audio, scanning the audio feed to pick out dialogue and separate it from background noise or intense music. The brand’s gaming features make adjustments for latency, brightness, and color profiles. AI Energy tracks ambient light so the set can keep HDR brightness when necessary but conserve power when scenes or rooms go darker.

Implications for the TV Market

Hisense doesn’t hide its premium ambitions. Its jump from 14% to 24% of the global premium TV market over the past year shows the payoff of its broad-based Mini LED strategy. By covering Mini LED, Micro LED, and laser projection, the brand aims to attract a broad range of big-screen enthusiasts. Now it adds a multi-channel wireless audio system, tying together the whole home cinema picture. If it can keep costs below rivals, the new lineup might reshape consumer expectations for large-format TVs.

Still, distributing displays 100 inches or larger isn’t simple. Hisense must handle advanced manufacturing and complex shipping logistics. Competition with established high-end names will be intense, and image critics may question motion, black levels, color uniformity, and build quality. The company, though, hopes its vertical integration—especially in chip design and backlight engineering—gives it an edge. It’s gambling that simpler user experiences and AI-driven refinements will satisfy even demanding buyers.

Looking Past CES

CES 2025 is the grand stage for these show-stopping introductions, but the real challenge comes once the final prices hit the market. The 116UX might disrupt the segment if it matches or beats the cost of smaller OLED sets. The 136MX could raise the bar for self-emissive displays, assuming Hisense reins in the typical Micro LED price premium. The L9 Cube depends on how well the auto-calibration features adjust to average living rooms and whether viewers embrace a short-throw system over a traditional TV. If the HT Saturn setup truly delivers easy, immersive audio without cable clutter, it might attract those who’ve been stuck with soundbars.

Hisense’s unified Hi-View AI Engine and expanded wireless features shape a more interconnected 2025 product line. Tighter integration should enable better reliability and smoother updates across different models. With a solid year behind it, the brand seems positioned to continue its rise. Whether that path leads to more aggressive pricing or alternative sizing options remains to be seen. For now, at CES, Hisense is betting on bigger screens, deeper color accuracy, and user-friendly extras. If the prototypes live up to the hype in the real world, it could mark a turning point for how many people view premium home entertainment.
